We offer professional, friendly legal advice and representation in courts throughout Scotland.
Vincent McGovern has practiced law for over 30 years and has vast experience in representing clients in courts throughout Scotland. As a result, McGovern Reid prides itself as a firm rooted in its community with a strong focus in assisting local people whenever legal advice and help is needed.
He also has a special interest in ensuring access to justice, not just those for those he represents but for anyone needing legal assistance to obtain justice. In 2007, the Law Society of Scotland appointed him as one of the team of solicitors to represent all Scottish criminal lawyers in legal aid negotiations with the Scottish Government. He served in this post with distinction from 2007 until 2011.
In 2012, he received a ministerial appointment from the Scottish Government through the Public Appointments Centre of Excellence to join the Board of the Scottish Legal Aid Board. He was then appointed to serve on the Legal Services Policy Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee.
His unrivalled experience has been recognised not just by his large clientele built up over 30 years but by his professional body, the Law Society of Scotland, The Scottish Legal Aid Board and the Scottish Government. As one of Scotland’s most experienced criminal defence solicitors, Vincent was invited to give evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee as part of their ongoing inquiry into the role and purpose of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. He appeared before them in Hamilton in November 2016.
In November 2019 Vincent was appointed by the Lord President, Lord Carloway, to serve as a solicitor member of the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal.
